Solid-liquid Separation Microporous SiC Ceramic Filter Membrane

Introduction

Silicon carbide ceramic membrane is considered as one of the high-end membrane technologies in the world. It can reach 100 times that of traditional organic membrane materials and 3-5 times that of ordinary ceramic membranes.Silicon carbide ceramic microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes are sintered at a high temperature of 2300 °C. The surface of silicon carbide membrane is smooth and round, and the support layer and separation layer have no sealed pores and channels.

The SiC ceramic membrane (SIC ) is made based on recrystallization technology with high porosity and has a series of microfiltration and ultrafiltration. The support layer, intermediate layer, and filtering layer are all in pure silicon carbide.

SiC ceramic membrane has numerous advantages, such as high strength, good thermal shock stability, large flux, low operating cost, and long service life. It is considered as a new generation of ceramic membrane for the future.

Advantages:

  • • The SiC membrane is more suitable for the backwashing process, so that the membrane holes are not easily blocked, and the service life is as long as fifteen years.
  • • During the sintering process, the sintering neck between the silicon carbide aggregates undergoes a phase transition from solid to gas to solid, with an opening rate of over 45%. The formed filter channel has strong connectivity, coupled with the inherent hydrophilicity of the silicon carbide material (contact angle only 0.3 °), resulting in a pure water flux of up to 3200LMH, and is hydrophilic and oleophobic.
  • • The isoelectric point of the silicon carbide membrane is around pH 3, and the surface of the membrane can maintain being negatively charged over a wide pH range, improving its pollution resistance.
  • • Excellent chemical stability, capable of working in extreme environments (pH range 1-14); a variety of cleaning plans can be developed based on the characteristics of pollution factors; Oxidants are fully tolerant, including ozone and hydroxyl radicals.
