1.Overview of Porous Alumina Aerator Plate & Tube for Aquaculture

1.1 General introduction
Porous alumina aerator plate/tube is a special microporous ceramic hollow/plate component designed for aquaculture oxygenation. It adopts high-purity alumina raw material and high-temperature sintered interconnected microporous structure. It can split compressed air into uniform microbubbles to maximize gas-liquid contact area, greatly improve water dissolved oxygen efficiency and cut energy consumption of air compressors. It is widely used in intensive fish & shrimp breeding, seafood temporary rearing, aquaculture sewage aerobic treatment and landscape pond oxygen replenishment, acting as a durable high-efficiency alternative to short-lifespan plastic & rubber aeration pipes.

1.2 Chemical Composition & Microstructure

  • Single-phase high-purity alumina as main raw material, matched with controllable pore-forming agents and tiny sintering aids to form compact ceramic skeleton and interconnected breathable channels.
  • Fully dense three-dimensional penetrating pore network, stable fixed micropore size without collapse or deformation after long-term underwater soaking.
  • Density: 2.5–2.6 g/cm³, rigid solid ceramic base with balanced mechanical strength and stable air permeability.

2. Manufacturing Process

2.1 Raw Material Batching & Mixing
High-purity alumina powder is blended with quantitative pore-forming agents and sintering additives, uniformly ball-milled to eliminate particle agglomeration, precisely proportioned to guarantee stable porosity and consistent air output.
Step A: Extrusion / dry pressing to shape flat aerator plates and tubular aerator blanks separately.
Step B: Low-temperature debinding to fully burn out internal pore-forming substances and form connected through micropores.
Step C: High-temperature integrated sintering to solidify alumina skeleton and lock stable pore structure.
Step D: Strict constant temperature cooling curve to avoid deformation and internal microcracks inside aerator bodies.

2.2 Precision Cutting & Controlled Finishing
Step A: Molded aerator blanks are cut into standard sizes according to aquaculture equipment specifications.
Step B: Slow programmed edge chamfering to eliminate sharp burrs that may fall off and block air pipelines.
Step C: Cooled semi-finished aerators maintain complete flat/tubular shape without distortion before post-processing.
Secondary annealing treatment to release residual forming stress, improve aerator body toughness and prevent cracking under alternating water pressure.

2.3 Blank Sorting & Finished Stock
Saw large sintered aerator blanks into standard finished plates and tubes; grind inner and outer surfaces to unified dimensional standards. Conduct air permeability inspection to reject defective blanks with blocked pores. These qualified semi-finished aerators are supplied raw material to aquaculture equipment manufacturers.

  • Resistant to most aquaculture reagents, organic residues and general water pollutants; only slightly affected by concentrated hydrofluoric acid and strong molten alkali.
  • Zero gas precipitation under long-term water soaking, fully compatible with closed circulating aquaculture water systems and seafood temporary rearing tanks.
  • No harmful substance release after long-time underwater operation, safe for fry, shrimp, crab and edible aquatic products.

4. Key Limitations

  • Not suitable for continuous long-term work in heavily turbid aquaculture water with massive sediment; pre-filter device is required to avoid micropore blockage.
  • Susceptible to surface corrosion when exposed to concentrated hydrofluoric acid and strong alkaline chemical cleaners.
  • Ceramic brittleness brings risk of breakage under heavy violent impact during transportation and on-site installation.
  • Unit cost higher than disposable plastic aeration pipes, not the priority choice for low-investment large outdoor earthen ponds.
