Fish Tank Air Stone for Aquarium Air Pump Bubble Stone Cylinder Disc
An air bubble stone, also known as an air stone or diffuser, is a small device, typically made of porous material like wood, stone, or synthetic compounds, that attaches to the end of an airline tube from an air pump.
Its primary job is to break down the large, noisy stream of air from the pump into a dense stream of tiny, silent bubbles.
Material:
The oxygen increasing area of cylindrical bubble stones with the same specifications is smaller than that of spherical ones, and spherical ones have a better stirring effect on water quality than cylindrical ones. Sand table gas stones (sand cakes, nano plates, bread) have fine bubbles, quiet effects, dissolved oxygen, and energy saving (small air pumps can achieve the best effect)
Application scenarios
1. Daily Oxygenation and Stocking Density
This is the most direct application.
2. Water Circulation and Destratification
This is as important as oxygenation in many cases.
How it's applied: A column of rising bubbles pulls bottom water to the surface, creating a continuous current. In circular tanks, a single diffuser in the center creates a circular flow. In rectangular ponds, diffusers are placed strategically to create a rotating flow pattern.
Why it's critical:
3. Waste Management and Biofiltration Support
Aeration is the engine that drives the nitrogen cycle.
4. Emergency Aeration (Saving the Crop)
This is a non-negotiable application for any serious fish farmer.
Technical Parameters Table
Parameter |
Typical Range |
Notes |
Standard Bubble Size |
1 - 3 mm (Fine to Very Fine) |
Smaller bubbles have a higher surface-area-to-volume ratio, leading to superior Oxygen Transfer Efficiency (OTE). |
Oxygen Transfer Efficiency (OTE) |
5 - 8% per foot of depth |
Significantly higher than rubber or plastic diffusers, especially in clean water. |
Standard Airflow Range |
2 - 10 SCFM per square foot of diffuser area |
(Standard Cubic Feet per Minute). Designed for a wide operational range. |
Recommended Operating Depth |
10 - 30 feet (3 - 9 meters) |
Performs optimally under higher hydrostatic pressure. |
Start-Up / Wet Pressure Drop |
4 - 8 inches H₂O |
Low pressure drop at the beginning of aeration cycle. |
Dynamic / Operating Pressure |
6 - 12 inches H₂O above static water pressure |
Dependent on depth and airflow rate. Requires a capable blower. |
