Ozone disinfection and sterilization machine, also known as an ozone generator, is a device that produces ozone (O₃)​ gas for air and water purification. It operates on the principle of corona discharge​ (also called crawl discharge or silent discharge), using air or pure oxygen​ as the raw material. Under a high-voltage electric field, oxygen molecules (O₂) are split into oxygen atoms, which then combine with other O₂ molecules to form ozone (O₃). Ozone is one of the strongest oxidants known, capable of rapidly destroying bacteria, viruses, mold, and organic contaminants at certain concentrations.

Ozone generators are mainly classified by feed gas type and cooling method:
Air-source type: Uses ambient air, dried and filtered before discharge. Lower cost but may produce nitrogen oxides as by-products.
Oxygen-source type: Uses concentrated oxygen from an oxygen concentrator or cylinder. Higher ozone output and purity, suitable for demanding applications.

  • Mold and Mildew Remediation: Ozone can kill mold spores on surfaces. It's often used as part of a comprehensive mold removal process after the primary source of moisture and bulk mold has been removed.
  • Air Purification: It can reduce airborne contaminants like bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms by rupturing their cell walls. However, its effectiveness varies greatly with concentration and exposure time.
