1. Overview of Diatomite

1.1 Definition an Formation

Mullite sheet (also named mullite ceramic plate, mullite kiln shelf) is a flat refractory aluminosilicate ceramic component whose main crystalline phase is stoichiometric mullite with chemical formula 3Al₂O₃·2SiO₂.
It is manufactured with high-purity fused mullite, corundum raw materials, organic/inorganic binders, followed by high-pressure forming and ultra-high-temperature sintering above 1500℃.
Dense solid sheets, hollow perforated mullite slab and thin precision mullite wafers are all available according to industrial demands.

1.2 High-temperature mechanical strength

As one of the most thermally stable oxide ceramics, mullite sheet balances high-temperature mechanical strength, low thermal expansion and outstanding thermal shock resistance, widely adopted as core kiln furniture, thermal insulation substrate and high-temperature carrier across multiple high-heat manufacturing sectors.

2.2Chemical & Electrical Features

High chemical inertness: Resists erosion from molten glass, glaze liquid, weak acid & alkaline atmosphere, oxidation atmosphere

Excellent electrical insulation, low dielectric constant, suitable for high-temperature insulating substrates.Non-sticky with ceramic glaze, metal oxide powder, easy to clean after firing cycles. After high-temperature sintering at 1600–1700°C and precise grain boundary regulation, a tightly interlocked microscopic structure of corundum and mullite grains is formed. Fine post-processing such as cutting and polishing is then carried out to ensure accurate dimensional tolerance and flatness, meeting the assembly and use standards of precision high-temperature equipment.

3.1 Thin Precision Mullite Sheet

Thickness: 2–10 mm; customized length & width from 50×50 mm to 400×400 mm

Application: Electronic ceramic substrate, lab high-temperature test carrier, small precision sintering fixture

3.2 Hollow Perforated Mullite Slab

Evenly arranged through holes on the side wall, lighter weight, faster heat circulation, lower kiln energy consumption

Max service temp: 1380–1450℃; mainstream sizes 600×400×20 mm, 800×500×25 mm

3.3 Storage & Usage Notes

Store in dry ventilated warehouse to prevent long-term damp absorption; wet sheets need full pre-drying before kiln loading

Avoid violent impact during transportation and installation; edge chamfer design is recommended for heavy-load frequent cycle scenarios

Slow heating-up rate suggested for first-time use (≤100℃/h below 800℃) to eliminate internal moisture and micro stress

Do not contact strong hydrofluoric acid or molten alkali salt for long-term continuous operation, which will corrode mullite crystal structure.

Reduces kiln overall load, shortens heating-up time, cuts power/gas consumption.Low impurity precipitation: Will not pollute sintered products, meets strict quality standards for electronics and high-end precision ceramics. In the electronic ceramic and new material industry, they act as sintering trays and substrate supports for magnetic materials, fluorescent materials and precision electronic ceramics. Moreover, they are also ideal insulating and wear-resistant components for high-temperature power equipment.
